An innovative fully CO2 system developed by Australian system developer Glaciem Cooling Technologies won the 'Excellence in Refrigeration' award at the 2018 AIRAH Awards, held on 14 November at Peninsula C, Docklands, Melbourne.
The Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating (AIRAH) Awards recognise the individuals, companies, research projects and products across the diverse specialist fields that make up the HVAC&R industry in the country.
Glaciem Cooling Technologies' DP-CO2 system, along with a ThermCOLD thermal energy storage system, solar PV, and proprietary control software, were installed at the recently opened Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia. The system was commissioned in April.
Finalists featuring natural refrigerant use in other categories included Ritchies IGA Supermarket Beechworth (Excellence in Sustainability) and Cold Logic Coopers Brewery (Excellence in Refrigeration).
Damian Mackey, vice-president and managing director of Heatcraft Australia, which sponsored the 'Excellence in Sustainability' award, said at the event: “Sustainability is important from a business but also from a personal perspective. I have never seen an industry supporting a better life as much as this one."
“The overwhelming feeling at this year’s AIRAH Awards presentation dinner was that the future of our industry is bright,” says AIRAH CEO Tony Gleeson, M.AIRAH.
“We’re going through a time of transformative change – and massive opportunity. It’s great to see our leading companies and individuals tackling the challenge to create a more sustainable built environment and raising the bar for everyone.
