CAREL: Waterloop technology for the supermarket of the future

The Italian manufacturer explained how companies can realise 35% energy savings by using this technology.

“There is a possibility to achieve 35% energy saving with waterloop technology using control systems”, Sergio Maria Capanelli, CAREL says.  

Capanelli explained how using controls and integrated systems can make heat pumps and food refrigeration systems recover energy more efficiently.

In the company’s case study, “CO2 was used as a refrigerant [in a supermarket system] because of its good heat recovery”, he explained.

By using controls with the heat pump and refrigeration system peaks in the cooling system were substantially reduced. 

“CO2 to be used over R404a to reduce the overall emissions of the plant [even more] as well”, Capanelli explained to the audience at the IEA Heat Pump conference in Rotterdam, the Netherlands (15th – 18th May 2017).
