Emerson CO2 comprehensive solutions comprised of the following:
  • Compressors with piston and scroll technology for medium and low temperature applications, including digital modulation
  • Variable speed drives
  • Flow controls devices
  • Electronic controllers for centralized and distributed system architectures
  • High pressure controls
  • Display case controllers
  • CoreSense™ Diagnostics used on all semi-hermetic CO2 compressors for advanced compressor protection, preventive maintenance and diagnostics

Compressors featuring scroll and piston technology for CO2

Emerson offers two distinct types of compressors designed for the specific needs of CO2 applications which therefore aim to take the maximum advantage of the specific characteristics of CO2 systems.

ZO range Copeland Scroll™ compressors for CO2-subcritical:

  • Particularly suited for convenience store applications
  • Ideal for scroll hybrid systems using R134a (MT) and CO2 (LT)
  • Compact, half the weight of equivalent semi-hermetic compressors
  • Digital modulation from 10…100% to reduce system capital cost
  • Pressure ratings 30/45 bar
  • Resistant to liquid slugging

Copeland™ Stream semi-hermetic compressors for CO2:

  • For medium and low temperature applications (design pressure 90/135 bar)
  • Inverter Release 25-70 Hz
  • CoreSense™ Diagnostics: advanced protection, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, communication
  • Troubleshooting capabilities / fault history
  • Individual compressor power monitoring

High quality flow controls and electronics

Emerson produces a variety of valves, flow controls and oil regulators which can satisfy a wide range of needs related to subcritical and transcritical CO2 systems. Amongst others, Emerson products include:

  • EX series high linear electrical flow control valves for subcritical systems up to 60 bar
  • CX series high linear electrical flow control valves for transcritical systems up to 120 bar
  • OM5 oil regulators for high pressure compressors which manage to simplify the complexity of oil management system design up to 120 bar

Emerson electronic controllers for efficient system management

The inclusion of Dixell electronic controllers adds value to the Emerson Climate Technologies CO2 solutions by optimizing compressor and cabinet management. Solutions combining the iProRACK programmable controller with the XEV20D controller manage the compressor pack and maintain operating efficiency; while systems combining the iProRACK with XEV32D effectively manage low and medium temperature levels of CO2 hybrid systems.

Advantages of CO2 solutions made by Emerson Climate Technologies:

  • High operational efficiency and safety
  • Increased system uptime
  • High compressor protection, diagnostics, communication and power consumption monitoring
  • Validated system performance, minimized maintenance costs, extending system lifetime
  • Efficient system management
  • Control and monitoring tools enable the communication of advanced system insights from CoreSense technology
  • Easy installation and adjustment of controllers and evaporator side controllers
  • Compressors and controllers operating under consistent high design pressures

Why develop solutions for CO2 refrigeration systems?

Environmental concerns regarding the impact of greenhouse gas emissions coupled with legislation developments have increased the market potential of using CO2 as a refrigerant. However, since the use of CO2 in refrigeration necessitates high operating pressures, there is scope for redesigning refrigeration systems so as to maximize the exploitation of CO2 benefits.
