GCAP, the Garden City Ammonia Program based in Kansas, offers training for operators of CO2 transcritical and cascade refrigeration. Together with the CoolCast Team, a video and podcast streaming tool, company Founder Randy Williams and his staff provides education on ammonia and CO2 refrigeration, steam boilers, and PSM/RMP compliance.
GCAP provides training for over 600 companies around the world. With a focus on best practice, the company strives to enhance the efficiency and safety of refrigeration technology by educating technicians in their training labs while keeping up with the pace of ever-changing technologies.

Hands on Equipment
With one of the most complete training facilities in the world, GCAP has 3 different ammonia engine rooms available for operator training which include 20 different compressors (one running on an ammonia/ CO2 cascade system), and 5 live natural gas fire tube boilers. Garden City Ammonia Program trains over 1,300 students per year.
New Developments in the GCAP Training lab
GCAP has recently installed Mycom/ Mayekawa NewTon 3000, the world’s first semi-hermetic screw compressor unit running on a NH3/CO2 cascade system. The NewTon 3000 uses NH3 (ammonia) as a refrigerant, and employs an indirect cooling method that circulates liquefied CO2 for cooling cold storage rooms.
Mayekawa is one of the world’s leading freezing and refrigeration equipment manufacturers advocating the “Natural 5” refrigerants (CO2, ammonia, hydrocarbons, water and air), as a way to protect the ozone layer and stop global warming.
Upcoming CO2 Technician Training will be held:

- Covering: Cascade Brine, Cascade Compression, Transcritical CO2
- Prerequisites: Ammonia Operator 1 course and/or 2 years of industrial refrigeration experience
