Natural Solutions Survey for Developing Countries

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), together with shecco, has launched a survey on the availability, benefits and challenges of natural refrigerants and HFC-free foams in developing countries. UNIDO and shecco invite industry, end-users, associations, policy makers, NGOs, researchers and other involved parties to take the survey!

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), together with shecco, is increasing its efforts to better understand the needs of developing countries as well as identify opportunities when opting for natural refrigerants and foam blowing agents with low global warming potential. Both organisations have therefore partnered up to launch a global survey to investigate the potential of air, ammonia, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons and water used as refrigerants, and in the case of carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons also as foams. More importantly, the survey is also looking for best-practice examples to be followed for more sustainable substances in heating, cooling, refrigeration and insulation applications.

The survey is available in 3 languages:

Survey Content

The survey intends to collect input from developing countries faced with the search for alternatives under their HCFC phase-out management plans. UNIDO and shecco welcome responses from Africa, Asia, Caribbean/Central America, Middle East and South America to voice your opinions. It has a maximum of 19 content questions, and will take around 15 minutes to complete. It puts a focus on the following subjects:

  • Current market share of natural substances in developing countries
  • Market trends for natural refrigerants and foams in the next 5 years
  • Main barriers and priority in addressing them
  • Importance and current contribution of main stakeholder groups in each country
  • Available safety standards and recognition of natural refrigerants
  • Activities related to natural substances in individual organisations in developing countries
  • Collection of case studies, presentations, working papers etc. to substantiate the findings

Context

UNIDO and shecco are jointly organising a Technology Summit on 3 & 4 June 2013, at the UNIDO headquarters in Vienna to discuss the barriers to and the benefits of “Natural Solutions in Developing Countries”.

Input from the event, as well as the survey results, will be captured in a final report to be launched in August / September time. It will be freely accessible to all interested stakeholders around the world.

If you need more information about the survey and/or about the June event, or want to send additional files, please contact: research@shecco.com
