The specialist of controls systems for the retail market has just upgraded to Gold partnership on R744.com to showcase its new solutions for CO2 in commercial refrigeration. Starting with the presentation of its innovative E2V high pressure range, Carel highlights the importance of convenience stores for CO2 system technology in the future.

Carel can offer a complete high pressure range for CO2 applications in subcritical and transcritical systems. The proportional electronic expansion valve E2V offers a range of capacities to suit small store format CO2 refrigeration condensing units and mini racks with up to 140 bars. The E2V can be applied as the main high pressure and flash gas bypass valve in transcritical CO2 systems.

High potential for CO2 in convenience stores

Carel sees CO2 transcritical technologies evolving year on year, and has been acquiring extensive experience and knowledge, with a focus on supermarkets. However, the market now seems ready to shift its attention to a new niche with a huge growth potential: small convenience stores. This sector has a far higher number of outlets compared to supermarkets globally and is growing at a fast pace with substantial investment by retailers.

Main features of the E2V

The flow of refrigerant is modulated by a nozzle coupled to a torpedo-shaped aperture that measures over 15 mm long, and has a wide operating range. The internal mechanism is fitted to a calibrated spring with ball bearings and guarantees stable and reliable regulation reducing the risks of failures. The equipercentage variation of the refrigerant flow-rate to the degree of opening of E2V in both directions ensures high precision control in all applications, even at low flow-rates.

E2V is completely manufactured using laser-welding techniques on high quality materials (AISI 316L), as well as techno polymers. Carel has paid special attention to the smallest details in designing E2V to ensure very high reliability for operations up to 120bars of differential pressure and of up to 140 bar of max pressure. Other features include exclusive axial motion of the nozzle aperture and seal gasket in the closing position.

CAREL at Chillventa

Carel will be also showcasing many of its CO2 solutions to the Chillventa trade show participants, exhibiting in hall 6 stand 104.
