World-leading supplier of compact heat exchangers Alfa Laval has added its new range of compact, liquid-cooled, high-pressure brazed heat exchanger models CBXP27 and CBXP52 with large capacities to the R744.com database. Thanks to their design, the new models provide efficient heat transfer while saving space and weight for applications such as transcritical CO2 supermarket refrigeration systems and heat pumps.
As one of the most recent product innovations designed to meet the demands of supermarket CO2 cooling systems, brazed plate heat exchanger models CBXP27 and CBXP52 have capacities ranging from 20 kW up to 100 kW. “The emerging market for commercial refrigeration with CO2 is developing rapidly, especially in Europe,” says Rolf Christensen, Product Portfolio Manager, Industrial Equipment, at Alfa Laval. “The CBXP27 and CBXP52 are two additions to Alfa Laval’s product portfolio that meet the need for transcritical CO2 systems.’’
Applications in transcritical and cascade CO2 systems
CBXP27 and CBXP52 are suitable for use in transcritical CO2 systems, such as in supermarket cooling and heat pumps. They can be used as suction gas heaters, subcoolers, evaporators or as cascade heat exchangers in cascade CO2 systems.
Features and advantages
The new high-pressure brazed heat exchangers provide efficient heat transfer while saving space and weight. Their heating surface consists of thin corrugated metal plates stacked on top of each other. Channels are formed between the plates and corner ports are arranged so that the two media flow through alternate channels, usually in countercurrent flow for the most efficient heat transfer process.
The design pressure of 90 bar minimises the risk of releasing refrigerant to the atmosphere through safety relief valves at standstill.
CBXP27 and CBXP52 will be available as direct expansion evaporators with integrated Cetevap refrigerant distributor.
