The company’s efforts include introducing CO2 refrigeration in a pilot project supported by METI. Shibuya Hikarie, a flagship department store in the centre of Tokyo, opened in April 2012, features 6 units of 13HP water-cooled CO2 condensing units providing cooling to 40 showcases and 10 prefabricated refrigerated rooms. In comparison to an HFC system, energy efficiency has been improved by 26% and CO2 emissions reduced by 215 tonnes of CO2-eq per year.
