Reftronix, a Danish manufacturer of commercial CO2 condensing-unit controllers, has agreed with Danfoss to make an interface between the Reftronix controller and the Danfoss System Manager.

The interface was initially designed for Area Cooling Solutions’ iCool CO2 condensing unit, said Henrik Christensen, Reftronix’s U.S.-based Managing Director. Alarm handling and data logging are also included.

The Danfoss System Manager ties various controllers together under one screen, including those use for racks, cases and HVAC, he added.

“You can now connect the iCool system to the Danfoss System Manager, and it’s integrated like the rest of the refrigeration systems in the store,” he said. The interface can work for any other supplier’s CO2 condensing unit as well, he added.

Reftronix’s CO2 condensing unit controller comes packaged with an variable frequency drive (inverter) from Invertek that modulates the compressor speed and unit cooling capacity.

Installing a CO2 condensing unit to serve the cold rooms of a supermarket that is already using a CO2 rack system would enable the store to be “100% CO2,” noted Christensen.
