TEKO to bring CO₂ training to Bangkok

With increasing pressure on Thailand to phase down its f-gas usage, efforts by both local and international organizations to train the Thai industry on alternatives such as CO₂, are ramping up.

German OEM TEKO announced that it will be holding its first CO₂ training session for Thai industry stakeholders in Bangkok, Thailand on September 23 at the Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 20 hotel.

The training session is an official side event of the ATMOsphere Asia 2019 conference (organized by shecco), which will also be held in Bangkok on September 25.

The goal, according to TEKO, is to provide participants with a basic introduction to the using CO₂.

"We will demonstrate the use of CO₂ as a refrigerant as compared to f-gas refrigerants," said Nadine Neuberger, head of marketing for TEKO. "We will also explain the effects that CO₂ can have on humans along with the necessary safety requirements."

Session content will also cover topics such as trans- and subcritical processes, thermodynamics, CO₂ component market availability, and pressure load and volumetric refrigeration capacity differences.

The session, which will last from 12pm to 6pm, will conclude with a discussion on the commissioning process.

TEKO will also bring one of its ROXSTAair CO₂ condensing units to the session for a real-life, practical example. It has a medium temperature cooling capacity of 6-20kW and will include an 80 bar evaporator.

Growing CO₂ Potential in Southeast Asia

Training is the key to unlocking the potential for CO₂ technology in Southeast Asia, according to Andreas Meier, managing director for TEKO, who spoke about the topic at the ATMOsphere Asia conference in Singapore in 2018.

"CO₂ is a natural and efficient refrigerant and it has shown its performance in northern countries as well as in Asian regions," said Meier.

"CO₂ technology is sophisticated and can be made more effective by using technologies such as Evalift (TEKO's patented ejector technology). But the most important thing is installers and engineers have to be trained on CO₂ and I know in Asia there are a lot of good engineers, especially in refrigeration — so it is just a matter of training."

Meier is scheduled to speak at the upcoming ATMOsphere Asia 2019 event, which will be held on September 25 in Bangkok, at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC) where Bangkok RHVAC 2019 is taking place.
