Carrier Commercial Refrigeration celebrates delivering 10,000 CO₂ systems

Carrier Commercial Refrigeration is celebrating the landmark of having delivered 10,000 CO₂ systems to customers worldwide. The achievement was reached by the combined effort of the Carrier, Profroid, Green & Cool and Celsior brands, which operate under Carrier Commercial Refrigeration. The company is confident that it is the first European manufacturer to reach this milestone. 

Carrier Commercial Refrigeration sees great potential in natural refrigerant CO₂ thanks to its properties as non-ozone depleting, non-flammable and climate-friendly with a global warming potential (GWP) of one. Additionally, it is not affected by the HFC phase-down taking place under the EU F-Gas Regulation. 

The manufacturer installed its first transcritical CO₂ system in a Swiss supermarket in 2004. Amid growing interest in CO₂ technology in the following years, the company decided to introduce the CO₂OLTEC range. 

Carrier Commercial Refrigeration reinforced its commitment to natural refrigerants when Green & Cool, a specialist in CO₂ systems, became part of the business. “We believe that CO₂ as a natural refrigerant is the appropriate solution to both the regulation requirements and customers’ expectations for a sustainable and efficient refrigeration solution,” said Victor Calvo, president, Carrier Commercial Refrigeration.

The company is currently focusing on increasing the efficiency of its systems. The latest CO₂OLTEC Evo system uses patented ejector technology. According to the manufacturer, the ejector technology can increase energy savings by up to 30% per year in cold and warm climates. 

The firm offers a complete range of CO₂ systems for a variety of applications, ranging from 1 kW to 1.2 MW, in all climates. It has products for a wide range of applications, including supermarkets, small stores, ice rinks and warehouses, among others.
