Emerson Climate Technologies™, the world’s largest provider of HVAC/R solutions, will join R744.com as a Silver Partner to display its innovative range of scroll compressors for CO2 subcritical operation and an electrical control valve including its universal driver module.

Copeland Scroll™ and Copeland Discus™ set the standard for high efficiency in refrigeration applications while Copeland Scroll™ with vapour injection, the award winning Digital Scroll™ technology and the range of Alco Controls stepper motor valves are representative of its high level of innovation.

Serving the market with solutions that make economical and ecological sense

When it comes to minimising environmental impact of refrigeration systems, Emerson Climate Technologies™ believes in the concept of eco-efficiency, taking into account energy efficiency, life-cycle cost and safety aspects. As a result, priority should be on the use of high efficiency equipment and the reduction of refrigerant leaks. In this sense, HFCs and CO2 are considered valid choices, provided they deliver the required energy efficiency. CO2 (R744) has the added advantage of minimising the system’s direct Global Warming Potential.

In line with market trends, one of the latest Copeland ScrollTM compressor developments is addressing the segment of natural refrigerants in applications using refrigerant CO2 in subcritical condition. These compressors have been launched successfully on the market for more than a year, helping customers to develop efficient, reliable and compact installations. Typical applications include supermarkets across Europe as well as industrial sites such as breweries.

Scroll compressors in CO2 low temperature applications – a perfect fit !

The ZO range of scroll compressors, soon to be presented on R744.com, has been specifically designed for refrigeration applications using refrigerant R744 in subcritical operation, such as low temperature cascade and booster systems. It inherits the known benefits of scroll technology, outperforming competing technologies in efficiency and compactness. Furthermore, the ZO range design features account for the specific lubrication challenges in CO2 applications.

The four models ZO34, ZO45, ZO58 and ZO104 have nominal refrigeration capacities from 8 to 24 kW at typical cascade system conditions. They deliver the highest efficiencies on the market, and with high permissible condensing temperatures the ZO scrolls allow to further reduce the energy consumption of the complete system, taking into consideration both the low and medium temperature side of the installation. When compared with reciprocating piston compressors of similar capacity, the weight of the Copeland Scroll™ CO2 range is 30% to 60% less which enables easier transport, installation and maintenance as well as the design of more compact compressor packs.

Control components from Alco Controls for CO2 applications

To provide for the challenges CO2 technology poses to system manufacturers, Emerson Climate Technologies™ has developed control components suitable for subcritical CO2 installations. Its “ALCO Controls” brand offers stepper motor driven valves for precise control of refrigerant mass flow in refrigeration and industrial process cooling applications. The model EX6, to be showcased on R744.com, can be used as an expansion valve in CO2 subcritical applications.

The universal driver module EXD-U00, enabling the operation of its stepper motor driven valve EX6, features a shut-off and start/stop command to allow the driver module start to control the valve. ALCO’s electrical valves can also be driven to close position while the compressor is running for pump down function. The universal driver module can be connected to any controller providing an analogue input signal of 4…20 mA or 0…10V.
