Danfoss reports growing market interest in CO2 technologies not just in commercial but also in industrial applications in the South African market. R744.com reports from Frigair 2018.

As market interest in environmentally friendly HVAC&R technologies in South Africa picks up amid the global HFC phasedown, Danish multinational Danfoss sees the industrial sector as a promising future growth area for natural refrigerant CO2.
“It’s been very interesting in the last few years, with the development of CO2 technologies in the South African market,” said Alistair Bell, technical sales engineer at Danfoss (Pty.) Ltd., based in Johannesburg.
“10 or 15 years ago, the market wasn’t that accepting of CO2 technology, but in the last 18 months, there has been a sudden acceleration of interest,” Bell told R744.com at Frigair 2018.
“People want to create a greener future for the globe by going with green solutions,” he said.

Industrial sector ripe for growth
The biggest CO2 transcritical system for Danfoss in South Africa so far is 1 MW. “Within the next few months, we know there’ll be another one that’s probably going to be about 3 MW,” said Bell.
“These are industrial applications. CO2 transcritical is becoming more and more popular in industrial,” he added.
The multiejector for improving the efficiency of CO2 transcritical refrigeration systems is among the Danfoss technologies for natural refrigerants on show at Frigair.
Frigair 2018 is taking place at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg from 6-8 June.
