Emerson is optimistic that demand for CO2-based HVAC&R solutions in South Africa will grow. R744.com reports from Frigair 2018 in Johannesburg.

Growing demand for CO2-based HVAC&R solutions from South Africa’s food retail sector will help boost the market prospects for Emerson’s product portfolio for this natural refrigerant in the near future, according to Daniel De Beer, regional manager for sub-Saharan Africa at Emerson Commercial & Residential Solutions.

“I think the CO2 market is going to grow quite significantly in the next couple of years – specifically looking at smaller applications like convenience stores,” De Beer told R744.com at the Frigair 2018 tradeshow, taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa from 6-8 June.

“At this year’s show, we decided to focus specifically on CO2 solutions,” said De Beer. “We’re showcasing our entire CO2 portfolio.”

New Copeland compressor with CoreSense technology

Emerson’s CO2 offering ranges from a new 50 HP model in the Copeland line of transcritical CO2 compressors to the firm’s monitoring and transport solutions.

“What make the new compressor unique is the CoreSense communications technology that comes with it,” De Beer said. “Together with the integration of Dixell controllers, CoreSense gives you the ability to monitor your energy consumption per compressor, for example, on a large compressor rack,” he explained.

As natural refrigerant-based HVAC&R solutions become more popular in the food retail sector, Emerson is ready to provide sustainable cooling solutions throughout the cold chain – from farm to fork.

The 'farm to fork' concept, which R744.com reported on last year, sees the company provide natural refrigerant-based HVAC&R options from harvest and processing to transportation and distribution – as well as for the supermarket itself.
