Bringing you “everything natural refrigerants”, R744.com journalists were on site at the AHR Expo 2015 in Chicago, Illinois, from 26-28 January and had the chance to interview some key market players manufacturing CO2 solutions for heating and cooling applications.

AHR Expo, the world’s largest HVAC&R marketplace, was held this year in Chicago, Illinois and displayed 465,000 square feet of exhibits from 2,000 companies covering every sector of the HVAC&R industry. More than 80 companies active in natural-refrigerant-based technologies showed off their latest products, including IBP GmbH, Kaori, Mueller Industries, Danfoss, SANDEN International and Emerson Climate Technologies.

IPro Genius effectively maintains constant flash tank pressure

Andre Patenaude talked about Emerson’s IPro Genius which controls high pressure controls and bypass valves effectively to help maintain a constant flash tank pressure which is key to the efficient functioning of a transcritical CO2 booster system. Also on display at the Emerson booth were electronic controllers for expansion valves that modulate flow and handle defrost requirements.

K65 high pressure copper alloy tube and fitting system advantageous for CO2 market

IBP showcased its copper alloy fitting systems, which compliment the Wieland K65 tubing. Andreas Hinkler explains that the copper alloy contains 2% iron, making it especially strong and suitable for use with CO2 transcritical systems.

Kaori introduces its newest brazed plate heat exchanger

Allan Han talks about Kaori’s newest brazed plate heat exchanger designed for use with R744, which can be used in a heat pump or other high pressure applications that have limited space.

Mueller copper-iron tubing for TC CO2 available this spring

Christopher Mueller of Mueller Industries discussed the company’s Streamline XHP copper-iron tubing for transcritical CO2 systems, which is easily brazed and manufactured in the United States of America.

New pack controller for small CO2 systems

Chris Brown, Application Engineer, Electronic Control Division for Danfoss, presented the new Pack Controller AKPC772 model, which allows for the integration of multiple parts of a CO2 system, and is specifically designed for small modular CO2 systems.

New heat pump water heater to revolutionise industry in terms of efficiency

John Miles of SANDEN International presented the SanCO2 heat pump water heater, set to launch in the US in quarter two of 2015. Using CO2 refrigerant allows for increased performance, especially in lowers temperatures.
