Castel, new motor-driven ball valves for CO2 up to 140 bar

Castel, a leading Italian component manufacturer, has strengthened its CO2 product offering, with many new high pressure valves on display at the recent Chillventa 2014 trade fair in Nuremburg, Germany. The new motor-driven ball valves for CO2 installation in commercial refrigeration and industrial air conditioning systems, regulate refrigerant flow thanks to an actuator signalling the open/close function or modulating of the valve.

Exemplified in a prominent Go Green booth-image at Chillventa 2014 from 14-16 October, Castel is placing much of its development focus on innovative components for natural refrigerants CO2 (R744) and hydrocarbons (R290, R600 and R600a), which are non-ozone depleting (zero ODP) and have low global warming potential (low GWP).

Wide range of CO2 components now available by Castel

For application in transcritical, subcritical, and hybrid pumped CO2 systems, Castel offers the following products:

  • Expansion valves PWM
  • Solenoid valves
  • Safety valves
  • Check valves series 3132E and 3185E
  • Filter driers with moisture indicator series 41
  • Filter driers with replaceable series 44
  • Moisture indicators
  • Ball Valves series 65
  • Valves
  • Access fittings

Motor-driven ball valves for CO2 up to 140 bar

Castel motor-driven ball valves (series 6590EM, series 6597EM and series 6598EM) are equipped with a flanged adapter, which allows for coupling with an electrical actuator. The actuator provides the “muscle” that creates the force or torque to operate the valves, by opening, closing or modulating refrigerant flow.

The bodies of the valves are made of brass and conections either in copper, reinforced copper (K65) or stainless steel depending on the pressure. Internal pressure balance is ensured when the valve is closed.

Models of the motor-driven ball valves include:

Series 6590EM

  • PS = 80 bar
  • Copper connections equipped for low and medium pressure side of transcritical systems
  • Connections from 22mm to 42mm

Series 6597EM

  • PS = 120 bar
  • Reinforced copper connections (K65) equipped for high pressure side of transcritical systems
  • Connections from 22mm to 1.5/8”

Series 6598EM

  • PS = 140 bar
  • Stainless steel connections equipped forhigh pressure side of transcritical systems
  • Connections from 22mm to 42,2mm

Make way, Global Market

With gained experience worldwide in supplying multinational companies, Castel has become a key supplier of refrigeration and air conditioning components in Europe, with an ever-growing share of other international markets including Asia.

About Castel

Castel began its manufacturing operations in 1961 and was among the first Italian companies in the mechanical field to achieve the ISO 9000 certification in the early 1990’s. High standards and quality products to Castel are considered to be a global commitment. Moreover, the company has placed a focus on continuous innovation and improvement through the laboratory of the Politecnico University in Milan, as well as environmental responsibility in offering a line for natural refrigerants CO2 (R744) and hydrocarbons (R290, R600 and R600a).
