Westermeyer Industries: high-pressure components for CO2

By Elke Milner, Oct 13, 2014, 10:18 2 minute reading

As the refrigeration and air conditioning industry continues to shift to high pressure refrigerants, Westermeyer has expanded its product offering to include a full line of components supporting the high operating pressures of subcritical and transcritical CO2 systems. Oil separators, oil reservoirs, accumulators and receivers are among the products designed to handle operating pressures up to 1885 psig.

Westermeyer is one of the only US-based companies with a full line of code-approved, high-pressure components supporting the operating pressures of subcritical and transcritical CO2 systems.

High Pressure Coalescing Oil Separators

Coalescing oil separators  utilise a borosilicate glass filter element, which is designed to remove small oil particles and solid system contaminates. The filter can be serviced through the top flange assembly, which is designed for easy disassembly with no additional clearance required. All models can be modified to meet specific system requirements.

High Pressure Oil Reservoirs

Oil Reservoirs are designed to hold excess oil in parallel compressor systems. This oil results from varying system loads and defrost cycles. The oil reservoir is installed in between the oil separator and oil regulators. All models are designed with sight glasses for easy oil level viewing, and custom models are available.

High Pressure Accumulators

Suction line accumulators are designed to act as a temporary holding vessel between the outlet of the evaporator and the inlet of the compressor. During flood back conditions, the accumulator traps the liquid charge and allows it to be evaporated and fed to the compressor at a controlled rate. The internal U-tube includes an orifice, which ensures proper metering of the oil back to the compressor. Custom models are available.

High Pressure Receivers

ASME receivers have been designed to conform to the many requirements of a system designer. Receivers function to hold excess refrigerant between the condenser and the expansion device. Vertical and horizontal models are available, and connection styles may be modified in order to meet the precise needs of each individual system. Every Westermeyer product is nitrogen tested for quality assurance.
