A transcritical CO2 booster system has been installed at the Convivo staff restaurant at Roche Diagnostics,in Rotkreuz, Switzerland. The mini-CO2 booster system installed by Kältering AG excels both in its economical and ecological performance.
The staff restaurant of Roche Diagnostics in Rotkreuz was recently equipped with a CO2 transcritical booster system, installed by Bucher AG. The CO2 system with direct evaporation is specifically designed to cover low cooling demands in restaurants.
Optimal performance adjustment at small partial loads
The booster system consists of three compressors for the medium temperature (MT) range and one compressor for the low temperature (LT) range. The compressors for both MT and LT are regulated with a frequency converter each. This guarantees an optimal performance adjustment at small partial loads.
Medium temperature range:
- 3 CO2 compressors
- Cooling Capacity: 13,68 kW
- Refrigerant: CO2
- Evaporation temperature: -10°C
- Gas cooler outlet temperature: min 8°C
The supplied cooling capacity is used to cool the compressor for the LT and the restaurant’s refrigeration and cooling appliances:
- Cold store
- Refrigerated display cases
- Salad and sandwich buffet
- Commercial refrigerator
- Cooler for waste material
Low temperature range:
- Cooling capacity: 3,9 kW
- Refrigerant: CO2
- Evaporation temperature: -30°C
The CO2 booster system covers the refrigeration demand for cold storage, the commercial deep-freezer, and an ice flake machine.
Centralised data gathering and higher safety
The CO2 plant is controlled with a central system that captures all data, configurations and recordings. In the case of a fault in the refrigeration plant the control system can intervene immediately. A gas control sensor monitors the technical control centre as well as all rooms with components and pipes containing refrigerants. In case of an emergency, both visual and acoustic alerts are tripped.
