Alfa Laval closing the knowledge gap with Green Cool Academy

With the rapid growth of CO₂ refrigeration set to continue, Alfa Laval has been quick in realising that expanding the knowledge about the R744 technology is key to success. As a consequence the company has become engaged with the Green & Cool Academy that provides courses for refrigeration technicians.

As one of the leading manufacturers of CO₂ cooling systems, Alfa Laval has come to a conclusion that the future of refrigeration lies in CO₂. Currently they are the only manufacturer that can supply air coolers and plate heat exchangers for high-pressure units. The recently launched Optigo range, a new series of commercial air coolers is designed for 80 bar pressure with small copper tube diameter optimised for CO₂.

A shortage of expertise is, however, one of the main barriers holding this technology back. “We can see that there is a lack of knowledge. Every time there is something new, there is resistance and there are currently far fewer producers of machinery compared to traditional refrigeration equipment,” says Göran Hammarson, Key Account Manager at Alfa Laval.

Alfa Laval’s engagement in CO₂ training

Having recognised the importance of education in CO₂ refrigeration technology, Alfa Laval has decided to contribute to the Green & Cool Academy training course by providing heat exchangers and other necessary equipment to workshops. Moreover, two company representatives, including Göran Hammarson, participated in the first training session. “Overall I thought it was very interesting. It was a good mix of technicians, consultants and sales representatives, combining both theory and practice,” commented Mr. Hammarson.

Green & Cool Academy

To close the knowledge gap, Green & Cool Academy has been created by Swedish-based Green & Cool to provide training course in CO₂ transcritical technology for refrigeration technicians. Offered in English, German, French, Dutch, Polish and all the Nordic languages, the 2-day course gives a general introduction to the CO₂ refrigeration technology and includes practical demonstrations of the equipment.
