Mitsubishi Electric announces new CO2 condensing unit

The system is aimed at restaurants, small grocery stores and cold rooms, initially in Sweden.

Japanese OEM Mitsubishi Electric has announced the release of a new CO2 outdoor condensing unit aimed initially at the commercial food retail market in Sweden.

There system is available in two models, according to a March 31 press release.

  • Cooling capacity: 10 kW/2.8TR (@ -10°C/14°F)
  • Dimensions: 1455mm (57in) x 1600mm (62in) x 437mm (17in) (W x H x D) 
  • Refrigerant: R744
  • Model: ECOV-X55VA
  • Cooling capacity: 16 kW/4.5TR (@ -10°C/14°F)
  • Dimensions: 1455mm (57in) x 1600mm (62in) x 437mm (17in) (W x H x D) 
  • Refrigerant: R744

The unit is being targeted at applications such as gas stations, small grocery stores, restaurants, cold storage, freezer rooms and school kitchens. See the product brochure and website (in Swedish).

 Increasing Competition Among Japanese CO2 Outdoor Condensing Unit Manufacturers

The announcement signals the growing number of major Japanese manufacturers offering CO2 systems for the commercial food retail and food service sectors.

Market leader Panasonic has shipped more than 13,000 of its CO2 outdoor condensing units to date since 2010.

Daikin Europe N.V., a division of Japanese manufacturer Daikin Industries, Ltd, recently launched its CO2 “Conveni-Pack” integrated refrigeration, heating and air conditioning system targeted at small- to medium-sized food retailers in Europe.

Japanese OEM Sanden exhibited a new 10HP CO2 outdoor condensing unit last month at the Supermarket Trade Show (SMTS) 2020 exhibition.
